What are some good health insurance providers for tourists in the United States? This is NOT an endorsement for this service - but it does highlight the unique market that is travel health insurance. VisitorsCoverage Insurance for USA visitors, Travel medical insurance, Visitor Health Insurance.

It's typically a "temporary" individual policy - that's priced according to the length of visit - age - gender, etc... and if there are any known health risks. Keep in mind - failing to disclose known health conditions could void the policy.

The benefit of these policies is that because it's underwriting very short-term risk (days/weeks) - it can be cost-effective. Having said that - it's open to market conditions of supply/demand - and I wouldn't call it an aggressive market pursuit on the part of most big carriers. It's smaller ones hungry to make a $.

Visitors are NOT American citizens - so do not qualify for (and are not bound by) Obamacare. One of the underlying assumptions to Obamacare is that an American Citizen is also a taxpayer. It's not an exclusive assumption - a dominant one.

The policies offered as visitor's health insurance aren't bound by Obamacare to offer "10 Essential Benefits."

How can the government of India provide extensive health insurance to Indians like that in the USA?

Much of these countries are in Europe, with the only ones outside Europe being a few of the only developed non-European countries in the world: the USA, Canada, Australia, and Japan. Let’s take up the top ten and see what their tax revenue as a percentage of GDP is like:

They’re not in a crisis. They don’t have to deal with poverty, provide adequate food to all its population, provide basic infrastructure to villages, towns, and even cities, or help a population of 1.2 billion meet basic education and skills to make them employable in industry and services.

Their citizens are paying a good amount of taxes for the services they get back —India doesn’t. Half of the nation is battling through poverty. They can’t pay taxes. Fuck, they can’t pay for their own bread.

India has many more basic problems to deal with other than providing advanced healthcare to its citizens. I’m not saying health care isn’t important: of course, it is. that killing poverty, providing education and skills are more important, and you cannot spend much on extensive healthcare without your nation attaining a certain standard of development. India is much poorer than what we see in our daily lives —it’s not visible from the 500-odd cities the educated class of Indians come from. India can’t afford to do what the US is doing.
Is flexibility in the employment market in the USA affected by the necessity to provide health insurance?

What it did for the company I work for is create an influx of part-time people and interns for jobs lower down on the pecking order. So the admin and clerical people started working in shifts. One morning and one afternoon, with only the department heads being salaried fixtures. Other departments were not hit as, as it affected what are the entry-level and production type of roles. The problem is, those positions were held by salaried employees.

It’s the CFO’s job to keep us out of the red, and Insurance is a considerable expense. Making a move like that was able to do in rapid succession what other cost-cutting measures would have taken years to reflect on the balance sheet.

Outside of my specific employer, the health insurance mandate has also given rise to the so-called “gig economy” and freelancers, which are in about every industry these days. This provides more flexibility no doubt, but it also means that you have fewer people with salaried positions which goes a long way to providing a worker a measure of stability in their life.

What affordable health insurance plan provides an annual wellness checkup for low-income people in the USA?

Despite some people trying to make this political, I can tell you that you have different options available. Depending on how low of an income you have will determine some of the options you have available to you. As a certified ACA councilor for my state, we have several plans available to assist in wellness care.

I recommend you contact your Health and Human Services department to get some more information specific to your state. You can also contact a health insurance broker in your area who will assist you in completing the application (you can do this yourself, it is very easy) which will determine a help level and give access to the plans in your state. The concern is this is not an open enrollment period for the country, but you may have a qualifying life event that may open a special enrollment period for you.

Why is the ACA even a big deal if it provides health insurance for ~20M people, yet the USA has a population of around 350M?

Why it is a big deal, is because of some of the provisions that are actually within ACA. That before it, there were no laws that had these things in them such as: Covering people with pre-existing conditions. Before ACA, health Insurance companies could and did turn down people with a number of pre-existing conditions, and the ones they did cover they could charge outrageous premiums to.

With ACA children/dependents can be covered under parents and or legal guardians' health insurance until age 26. Before this, often separate policies were bought. Preventative screenings, exams are covered at 100% without deductibles. Often, Birth Control was covered. Now while covered in ACA, these same benefits also carried over into employer health plans, and a number were also put into Govt plans as well.

See with ACA, you are considering the number of people that currently are on it, or signed up for it. But the ACA has some moving parts to it. And many people today with the subsidies are not paying huge premiums.

I have retiree medical insurance, and my ex-employer still picks up a good part of my premium, and I do as well. Separate from ACA, there are people who have employers insurance, retiree insurance, Govt insurance, Medicare, Medicaid. ACA is one plan available.
